About
Growing up in rural Wisconsin, Alex Schildgen developed a love for music early on. He started guitar lessons at age 8, which played a crucial role in his musical journey. His guitar teacher, a key mentor, introduced him to bands like "The Beatles" and helped him join his first band, sparking Alex's passion for playing different instruments and collaborating with musicians. At 14, Alex discovered his passion for writing music due to a local country music competition. Using a digital audio workshop, he delved into concert band music, igniting his interest in orchestral composition and motivating him to pursue a career in music composition.
Alex Schildgen earned his Master of Music from Bowling Green State University and his Bachelor of Music degree from Butler University in Indianapolis, Indiana. Alex has created compositions for various organizations and events, including the Toledo Symphony Orchestra, BGSU Graduate Saxophone Quartet, BGSU Praecepta Mini-Fest 2024, Butler University’s School of Music, Sound Ecologies in Indianapolis, and Tiffany Lawson Dance in Chicago. He has had the privilege of studying composition under the guidance of Drs. Michael Schelle, Marilyn Shrude, Carter Pann, Mikel Kuehn, Christopher Dietz, and Frank Felice, whose mentorship has equipped him with a strong foundation to pursue his musical passion.
